With that said, we are excited to announce our largest community event yet: a full scale dress design contest. The winning design will be part of our Spring 2010 line, and the chosen designer will receive one of the completed dresses compliments of the C-T staff.

Judging the Work:
Christa, and a few members of the design team, will select the top three design entries. These designs will then be featured on our website and (this is the best part) YOU, our friends, will get to vote on your favorite.

Submissions:
All submissions must be entered by July 25th, when the voting will begin. The winning designer will be selected August 15th.
Only one submission per person will be accepted.

All Submissions must include the following:
-Sketch, front and back
-Name,
-Mailing address
-Email
-Phone number
-Age

-All finished/designed products become the property of Empowered Traditionalist, LLC dba Christa-Taylor.com.
Christa-Taylor reserves the right to make changes to the finished design

Since Project Runway is moving to Lifetime, Bravo is looking to fill the void with a new fashion design competition called Fashion House. As far as I’ve heard this show will be different from project runway because the designers will work in teams to create looks that will be up for retail. Here’s an excerpt from teh casting call:

Do you think you have what it takes to work in one of the most elite Fashion Houses in the world? We are looking for designers to be part of Bravo’s next fashion design series! We’re currently accepting applications from talented designers to take part in a fashion design competition series.
To be considered for the show, you must meet the following eligibility requirements (and others which are set forth in the Application):
* You must be at least 21 years of age as of January 5, 2009.

Our application consists of two (required) parts:
* A 10 minute personal video showcasing your skills as a designer. We want to see your personality!

DEADLINE: Completed applications and videotapes must be received by November 28, 2008 at 12:00 PM ET to be considered.**

MyItThings.com is holding a contest for aspiring fashion designers! You can enter by uploading up to five designs (either sketched or photographed) of Spring/Summer clothing. Viewers will choose the 10 semi-finalists, and from that group judges will select 3 finalists who will each be given the resources to create their collection which will be shown in New York. The winner receives $5000 towards creating their own line (that amount won’t even make a dent in a collection, but it’s good exposure) and the winning collection will go on sale at MyItThings.com.

If you’re a model, stylist, designer or jewelry designer based in NYC (or can get out there next week), here’s a great opportunity to build buzz for your brand without spending a dime:

Tired of tradition and doing things the same old way, a small group of eight Porter Novelli staffers, averaging 26 years old, created a “pop up” fashion agency called Jack + Bill. From mid-July to early September, the agency will provide free branding, buzz building, media relations and viral marketing services to one NYC-based individual in each of the following categories: model, stylist, women’s apparel designer and jewelry designer.

On July 15 and 16, Jack + Bill will hold an open “casting call” at Sandbox Studios (250 Hudson Street) to select its clients- imagine all the New Yorkers clamoring for their 15 minutes of fame!

Here’s a great contest out there for all you designers, especially artists, graphic designers and textile designers.  Doc Marten wants you to come up with a cool design for their new boot!  It’s international and two people will win.

This week I have something exciting for you.  Glam is looking for the next star Fashionista and we would love for you to help us find it.  We have created the Design a Dress contest

Glam’s Design a Dress contest is an exciting opportunity for a break out design star to be recognized and given the opportunity to design the dress of their dreams. Through sketches posted online, viewers can vote on their favorite designer.

From January 7 to January 31, readers can submit sketches of a dress they’d like to design. Once all entries are received, Glam’s editorial team will select 4 groups of 8 semifinalists that will be featured in a weekly slideshow with voting functionality. Readers will vote each week on their favorite dresses. The top two semifinalists each week move to the final round-for 8 total finalists.  These 8 finalists will be given 3 weeks to actually make the dress they sketched. Our panel of judges will then convene to decide on one ultimate winner.

Both Glam and MSN will collaborate to create a unique online fashion experience with access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content where viewers can remain informed on the progress of the contest. The MSN.com and Glam.com co-branded landing pages will not only keep audience members updated on voting but will also include judge profiles, dress trends and in-depth interviews with designers. Profiles and bios of the finalists will also be available on both sites throughout the contest.

My favorite store in the world, Express, is teaming up with Ford Models for the Wildest Jeans Stylist search.  Just to sum things up, to enter, you upload a picture of yourself in an outfit you styled that includes a piece of denim clothing.  The winner will fly to the New York for two days, style a high end shoot, receive fashion career advice at the Parsons New School of Design with a $1000 shopping spree at Express to top things off.  Sounds good, no?  Check it out for yourselves…
