Freelance Fashion Journalism Jobs

April 19, 2007 in Fashion Jobs, Fashion Magazine, Freelance Fashion by DFJ Admin

I thought I’d write a little bit about freelance fashion journalism. If fashion journalism is what you really want to do and you’re in high school, or not sure how to get started, I highly recommend either writing for magazines that accept freelancers OR starting your own fashion blog. Believe it or not, reputable companies often recruit webmasters from website they like. I was offered the job of Celebrity Gossip Anchor at oomph.net based on my gossip blog; now I can say Im a professional blogger AND that I work for Oxygen, which is a well known company.

The downside is there are so few outlets for fashion. I’ve searched through databases with thousands of magazines that accept freelancers and only found one or two fashion related leads. It’s depressing! You just have to be creative sometimes. For example, I found a magazine called the Dollar Stretchers that is all about saving money, and I wrote an article called Style on a Budget. Now I can put on my resume that I’ve been published in a national magazine!

Check out the leads below and hopefully you can find something that suits you!

General Sites
Associated Content – Pays $3+ for SEO friendly articles
Helium - Blog about a variety of topics

These sites are just for fun and practice.  You can write about anything you want and you’re paid very little.  Please, don’t ever link to any articles you write for these sites when applying for a job; a lot of editors look down on them, for one reason or another.
