April 13, 2007 in Industry Insiders Speak by DFJ Admin
I recieved this via email…I didn’t sign up for it, I’m not even familiar with the site, and I have no idea where it came from….yet it’s incredibly helpful! Jenifer B., the HR director at Juicy Couture did this short, sweet and to the point interview about what she looks for in a resume. Mind you, there’s at least a handful of positions open at Juicy at the moment, so definitely look this over if you’re planning to apply!
[The JobTool] What key elements do you look for when viewing a resume for Juicy Couture?
[Jenifer B.] Experience in the contemporary market, appropriate skill set & brand appropriate background.[TJT]What percentage of resumes that you receive would you consider great resumes?
[JB] 10%.[TJT] Wow, that’s high. Most HR pros tell us a figure closer to 3%.
[TJT]Why, what characteristics do these great resumes share?
[JB] Focused and concise explanations, clear and simple layouts, good career trajectory & thoughtful synopsis of experience.
[TJT]In a fashion resume, how important are Skills and what kind of skills are you looking for in an entry-level fashion design resume?
[JB] Very important – for hard skills, must have working knowledge of Illustrator & PDM and be skilled in hand sketching as well.[TJT]What do you not want to see in a resume?
[JB] An objective (the objective is to get a job). I also hate it when people only use years instead of including months of employment – it is vague and comes across as deceitful.[TJT] I better fix my resume
. How important is format or does it matter?
[JB] Very important – it can and should be creative if they are applying for a creative position but must always be clear, concise and well layed-out[TJT]How long does it take you to evaluate a resume?
[JB] 5 minutes max[TJT] Thanks for spending time with us and thanks for the excellent take on resumes.
[JB] Any time.
