For those who want a job at a fashion magazine, here’s a rare opening that isn’t a fashion magazine internship. It’s a “short term” job but a good one, I’m sure:
InStyle is looking for a new, short-term fashion assistant. Prior experience in the fashion industry is not necessary. This applicant should have prior administrative experience, a passion for fashion, exceptional organizational skills, the ability to work efficiently and autonomously in a very fast-paced environment, and a desire to learn everything necessary to get their proverbial “foot-in-the-door†of the fashion industry. Responsibilities would include: Clothing call ins, check ins, and returns. Providing scheduling and other administrative assistance to fashion director. Acting as credits editor. Providing styling assistance when necessary on set at cover and inside photo shoots. Attending occasional press previews and market appointments There is no paid vacation time or benefits. Salary is paid hourly.
Applicants should forward resume, cover letter, and references to juliet_feehan@instylemag.com. Chosen candidate’s start date would be November 5th, 2007.
This is in NY, of course. Don’t forget to visit the source.

My name is Rhiannon Volpe, and I am very interested in this wonderful opportunity. I am an incredibly hard worker. I have been in retail for almost eight years, and in retail management for six of those years. I currently am a student of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online looking forward to finishing with a degree for fashion management. I adore fashion; I am very creative and artistic, and I like the idea of applying those qualities to fashion to make a practical, successful career for myself. Also, I am a very hard worker; I am currently a full time store manager while attending school full time with straight A’s so far. I would really appreciate any further information and consideration for this opportunity to get my foot in the door. This would really be a dream come true for me, and I am up for any challeng you can throw at me. I love to learn and grow. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you so much for your time.
